Eaton hosted the first County Championship of 2019 on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th April and our members did us proud and played extremely well.

Norfolk County Golf Union reported as follows:-

"Saturday was a very cold day for the field and this felected a little with the scoring, the top score being 73 points and the final pairing qualifying with 67 points.

Sunday was a new day - not as cold but unpleasantly wet in the morning.

The Championship Semi Finals saw the Eaton pair of Neil Harrison and Phil Sayers come back from 3 down to defeat the Kings Lynn pair of Ian Yule and Kale Heath at the first extra hole in what was arguably the match of the day. The second semi final paired Eaton's James Lazzari and Paul Lincoln with Eaton's Jamie Smith and Mason Bernstein. This was another closely contested match with Smith and Bernstein runing out eventual winners.

Eaton had three home players in the final; Neil Harrison, Phil Sayers and Jamie Smith with Mason Bernstein representing Kings Lynn for the Carrick and Thompson Bowls. Thankfully the weather eased, Smith and Bernstein despite giving 5 shots to their opponents ran out the eventual winners with a handshake on the 15th hole. The third and fourth match place went to the 18th, with Lazarri and Lincoln winning two up against Yule ande Heath.

The Challenge Salvers was another all Eaton affair, the winners were Mark Eglington and Jake Anema who had a titanic struggle with Colin Campbell and Mark Smith with the match being decided at the first extra hole. Mark Williamson and Jon Batten defeating James Hazel and Mark Sadler in the third and fourth place play off."

A good weekend was had by all and well done to everyone who took part.
