Freehold Trophy - Saturday 20th May 2017

This year’s Freehold Trophy competition at Eaton was a special occasion as it was the 20th anniversary of the club’s purchase of the course.   To meet the expected demand, the format was changed to a Texas Scramble open to all members. This proved highly popular and 49 teams turned out to play for the replica of the Open Championship Claret Jug. To accommodate the large entry, there were two shotgun starts: one at 8 30 am and the second at 1 30pm. The social nature of the day was deemed as important as the golf and there were barbeques at lunchtime and again in the evening along with a happy hour. The preparation and favourable weather contributed to a fantastic atmosphere with family members joining players in the evening and the clubhouse packed for the presentation.

After a very closely fought competition, the winning team were ex captains Gavin Sargent and Chris Cooper with April Cooper and David Lonsdale with a net score of 53.75. Only .10 behind were Colin Norris, John Aspland, Neil Augustin and Terry Piggot with 53.85.
